Due to the high precision during EDM, components with filigree contours as well as complex geometries and bores are possible. Short explanation

How does EDM work?

EDM is a machining process in which material is removed by means of electricity. A distinction is made between the two processes of wire erosion and sink erosion. In principle, any current-conducting metal such as aluminium, steel, copper, brass or iron can be machined. In EDM, an electrode is moved at a small distance from the workpiece without touching it. An electric current flows in the narrow gap between the object to be machined and the electrode, generating extremely high temperatures between 8,000 and 12,000 degrees Celsius. This leads to material removal by discharge via sparks. How much material is removed depends on the polarity, gap width, duration and intensity of the machining and other factors. EDM as a machining technique is mainly used where the highest precision and particularly tight tolerances are required.
